Robert began his writing career in the early 2000s with acclaimed novels such as One Northern Soul and No More Heroes, both praised for their raw honesty and cultural resonance.
In 2009, he turned his pen to Leeds United, creating the much-admired Dirty Leeds trilogy—a blend of historical fiction, social commentary, and football drama:
- Dirty Leeds explores the glory years of Don Revie through the eyes of both real and fictional characters.
- Disrepute — Revie’s England follows the challenges Revie faced as England manager.
- Scandal FC dives into the turbulent early 2000s, blending fact and fiction to powerful effect.
These books are more than sports writing — they’re emotional time capsules that only someone who has lived Leeds United could create.
COLLABORATIONS
Robert has collaborated with Leeds United icons including Howard Wilkinson and Eddie Gray, adapting stories from his books and club history into screenplays.
In 2023, he teamed up with fellow author Dave Tomlinson to launch the NICE n REVIE YouTube channel—part football nostalgia, part history lesson, part good-humoured banter.
“Working with Dave is brilliant,” Robert says. “He’s got the encyclopaedic knowledge and I’m about the characters and atmosphere. Together, we hit the heart and the head.”
The idea for Legacy 11 Books was born in early 2025 while Robert and Dave were working on a project about Howard Wilkinson. For Robert, the goal was simple — creative freedom.
“Legacy 11 is about taking control of the stories that matter to us,” he says. “Raw, honest, and from the heart. No filters, no agendas — just passion and truth.”
